On October 28th, 2025, from 11:45am to 12:12pm, 15 members including Mr. YOKOTA Takuya, the representative of the Association of Families of Victims Kidnapped by North Korea, Mr. IIZUKA Koichiro, the secretary-general of the association and Ms. YOKOTA Sakie met with the Honorable Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America and the Honorable Marco Rubio, Secretary of State of the United States of America during their visit to Japan at the Akasaka State Guest House.
At the beginning, President Trump, guided by Prime Minister TAKAICHI Sanae, greeted to the families including Ms. YOKOTA. Following that, the families met with Secretary of State Rubio accompanied by Mr. KIHARA Minoru, Chief Cabinet Secretary and Minister in charge of the Abduction Issue, and Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Mr. YOKOTA, the representativeof the association, conveyed his heartfelt thoughts as a family member of abductees and asked for the United States’ support for the immediate resolution of the abductions issue. Secretary of State Rubio carefully and earnestly listened to Mr. YOKOTA, and subsequently expressed his words of encouragement to the families. He also spoke with each family member individually.
