The abduction of Japanese citizens by North Korea is a serious crime that has torn apart lives and families.

The Government of Japan is dedicated to bringing all of the abductees back home.

The abduction of Japanese citizens is a matter of grave concern that threatens the national sovereignty of Japan and the lives and safety of the Japanese people. Until this issue is resolved, there can be no normalization of relations with North Korea.

Abduction of Japanese Citizens by North Korea There has been a string of abductions of Japanese citizens by North Korea. To date, the GoJ has identified 17 abductees.		Points of Contention with the North Korean Position North Korea takes the stance that the abduction issue has already been resolved. The GoJ, however, considers this position to be unacceptable and continues to pursue adequate explanations for many unanswered questions.		GoJ Position and Efforts The GoJ is strongly urging North Korea to allow all of the abductees to immediately return home to Japan.
